The Icelandic national team in women’s handball beat Austria 29-25 in the Europe Cup pre-round in Reykjavík on Sunday. Iceland is hopeful about participating in the final competition in Denmark and Norway next year.
“The first half was magnificent but it was too much to keep up that performance throughout the game,” Iceland’s captain Hrafnhildur Skúladóttir told Morgunbladid. After the first half, Iceland was leading 20-10.
In addition to Austria, Iceland shares a qualifying group with the UK and France. France is considered the strongest team of the qualifying group and, according to visir.is, is almost guaranteed to claim the top seat. Iceland and Austria will have to fight for the runner-up seat.
