Iceland and Norway move closer to defense agreement

Iceland’s Foreign Minister Valgerdur Sverrisdóttir is scheduled to meet Norway’s Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Störe to discuss defense issues in a NATO meeting in Oslo, Norway, this week.

According to Fréttabladid, the two nations are expected to sign an agreement on defense cooperation at the meeting.

Iceland and Norway begun discussing the issue in November last year and in December a Norwegian delegation studied the defense zone at Keflavík airport.

Iceland has also approached the UK, Denmark and Canada regarding defense cooperation.
