Iceland and Indonesia to Cooperate on Energy

Iceland’s Minister of Industry Össur Skarphédinsson and Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Indonesia’s Minister for Energy and Mining, signed a cooperation agreement in Indonesia on Tuesday regarding geothermal energy.

The cooperation involves training, research, feasibility studies and drilling for harnessing geothermal energy, Morgunbladid reports.

Skarphédinsson has also met Indonesia’s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and other high-ranking officials to discuss the cooperation between the Indonesian energy company Pertamina and Reykjavík Energy Invest (REI).

Skarphédinsson said Indonesians are also interested in cooperating with Icelanders on aluminum production and deep-ocean fishing.
