Iceland and Britain Sign Energy Agreement

Acting Icelandic Minister of Industry Oddný G. Harðardóttir and British Minister of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change Charles Hendry signed a declaration of intent at the Hellisheiði power plant just outside Reykjavík yesterday.

The agreement involves increased cooperation between the two states in the field of energy with special emphasis on the utilization of renewable energy resources, Morgunblaðið reports.

The declaration specifically mentions three fields the two states intend to focus on in their cooperation, including exploring the viability of establishing a sea cable to transport electricity from Iceland to the UK.
