Iceland Airwaves Kicks Off

Iceland Airwaves 2014 kicked off in Reykjavík today.

The festival, which was first held in 1999 and has been labeled “The hippest long weekend on the annual music-festival calendar” by Rolling Stone magazine, comprises of hundreds of concerts by local and international artists in venues around Reykjavík.

For those without a ticket (the event sold out last month), the program also includes 675 free off-venue gigs.

Performers include: Flaming Lips, The War on Drugs, Caribou, Samaris, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Future Islands, FM Belfast, Jungle, Klangkarussell, La Femme, Mammút, East India Youth, Árstíðir, Jaakko Eino Kalevi, Agent Fresco, Ballet School, Ezra Furman, Lay Low, Kwabs, Son Lux, Tomas Barfod, The Vintage Caravan, Vök and Munstur.

The festival runs through Sunday.
