Iceland Airwaves Gets New Management

Iceland Music Export (IMX) made an agreement with events company Mr. Destiny on Thursday to take over the management of the Iceland Airwaves music festival. The festival’s two main sponsors are Icelandair and the City of Reykjavík.

“This agreement confirms Icelandair’s vision that new Icelandic music is amongst the best promotion Iceland offers,” managing director of Icelandair Birkir Hólm Gudnason told icelandmusic.is. “Music travels across borders, connects Iceland with different cultural societies and raises awareness of the country as an exciting destination.”

Svanhildur Konrádsdóttir, head of Culture and Tourism in Reykjavík, welcomes the agreement, saying that Iceland Airwaves has been instrumental in introducing Reykjavík as a vibrant city of music.

“The city has for years been a committed supporter of Iceland Airwaves, which we value as one of the most important festivals in Reykjavík’s cultural calendar,” Konrádsdóttir commented.

The first line-up for this year’s festival will be announced next month.
