Iceland drew against Norway 1-1 in the final match in the group stage this evening in Oslo. Icelander Kolbeinn Sigþórsson scored the first goal after 12 minutes but Norway equalized about 15 minutes later.

“We set ourselves a realistic goal, to be second in the group and go to the play offs and now we are there,” commented Lars Lagerbäck, the Iceland manager, to RÚV after the game.

Iceland needed to have the same or a better result than Slovenia to make it through. Slovenia lost 1-0 against the top team in group E, Switzerland.

The pairings will be announced at noon on Monday. Each second-placed team will play two games in mid-November, one home and one away, against one of the other teams for a last chance to go to Brazil. Iceland will come up against Portugal, Ukraine, Greece or Croatia, all great football teams with proven World Cup history.
