Iceland’s Women Football Team vs. Slovenia

The race for a seat at the European Championships is getting rougher. The Icelandic women football team plays against Slovenia on Saturday.

If the Icelandic girls win, they will at least get the second place in their heat, which means that they’ll go to a play-off for a seat at the EC, Morgunbladid reports.

The match will be in Reykjavík, and Sigurdur Ragnar Eyjólfsson, the coach of the Icelandic team, is optimistic and believes the team has a good chance at getting to the European Championships.

Women’s football has been getting more popular over the years, and since the Icelandic national team started to climb up the international FIFA ranking list, they have been getting more media attention as well. The last match on their home field, against Serbia, attracted over 6,000 spectators, which was a record for women’s football.

The Icelandic home stadium, Laugardalsvöllur, has seats for 9,800 spectators and Eyjólfsson is hoping that there will be people in every seat on Saturday.
