Iceland’s West Fjords on Space Advent Calendar

By Iceland Review

A radar image of the West Fjords resembling a Christmas tree was among the images featured in the Cosmic Log Space Advent Calendar 2013. The calendar highlighted daily views of Earth from space from December 1 to 25.

According to NBC, the image is based on data collected by ESA’s Envisat satellite in 2004, 2007 and 2008 with the different colors mapping variations in the radar reflectivity of North Atlantic waters.

The white dots in the fjord near the center of the image mark the region’s largest town, Ísafjörður.
