Iceland’s Second Ski Resort Opens

By Iceland Review

The skiing area in Mt. Hlídarfjall above Akureyri, northeast Iceland, opened yesterday. Three lifts were open the first day and the rest will be opened in the next few days provided there is sufficient snow in the slopes. Dalvík ski resort opened yesterday.

The opening of both ski resorts was made possible through production of fake snow. The support group Vinir Hlídarfjalls (“Friends of Mt. Hlídarfjall”) helps finance the extensive snow-production system in Akureyri, reports.

The Hlídarfjall skiing area will be open from 4 pm to 7 pm on weekdays and from 10 am to 5 pm during weekends and holidays. The area is lit.

The skiing area in Mt. Tindastóll overlooking Saudárkrókur, northwest Iceland, is scheduled to open today. Tindastóll also has a fake snow machine.
