Iceland’s President and Prime Minister Same Person

On a normal day MP for the Progressive Party Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson is Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture and Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources. However, he is also currently Acting President, Acting Prime Minister, Acting Foreign Minister, Acting Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and Acting Minister of Justice, making him Iceland’s most powerful man, mbl.is reports.

President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson and Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Bjarni Benediktsson are currently attending meetings abroad.

Sigurður Ingi is also filling in as Minister of Justice, a role which Sigmundur Davíð holds temporarily.
