Sigmundur invited Obama on an official visit to Iceland. “He took the invitation well and said that he very much wanted to visit the country as soon as he has the opportunity.”

Cyber security, environmental protection, development assistance and Icelandic knowledge in the areas of geothermal energy and Arctic issues were among the issues discussed at the meeting, reports.

Sigmundur said it had been a good meeting and he had enjoyed speaking with Obama. “It was really nice to speak with him. This is of course someone who I have followed in the media for many years. For that reason, it was interesting to have the opportunity to sit next to him for three hours and chat. He is a really likeable person.” reports that Sigmundur was wearing two different shoes—a black dress shoe on his right foot and a black Nike sports shoe on his left—when he was photographed with Obama and the Nordic leaders.

According to his assistant, Jóhannes Þór Skúlason, one of Sigmundur’s feet is swollen due to an infection, which is why the PM made the unconventional choice in footwear—he was not making a fashion statement.
