Iceland’s PM Gets Bacon from Festival Organizers

Promoters of the annual Reykjavík Bacon Festival, which will be held on Skólavörðustígur in downtown Reykjavík today, visited the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday, presenting PM Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson trays of bacon and a lopapeysa woolen sweater.

“Thank you very much, it will go well with the shoes,” the PM commented, according to ruv.is, referring to the famous Nikes he was wearing when he met U.S. President Barack Obama and the leaders of the Nordic countries in Stockholm on Wednesday, although he was only wearing one of the shoes at the time.

In addition to approximately 20 domestic and foreign representatives of the festival, U.S. Ambassador to Iceland Luis E. Arreaga also visited the PM’s Office.
