Anna Margrét Franklínsdóttir, who lives in Selfoss, was 104 years-old yesterday; born on 15th June 1910 at Litla-Fjarðarhorn in Kollafjörður in the Strandir area of the Westfjords.
Anna’s parents were Franklín Þórðarson and Andrea Jónsdóttir, who herself reached the age of 97. Anna Margrét had 12 brothers and sisters, whose average age is 91, Vísir.is reports.
The editors of the Langlíf website believe the family is probably a world record holder when it comes to so many siblings reaching very high ages.
Four of the siblings are still alive. As well as Anna Margrét, there are also Nanna Franklínsdóttir, the oldest person in Skagafjörður, at 98; Margrét Franklínsdóttir, 92; and Guðbjörg Franklínsdóttir, aged 90 – all three of whom live in Siglufjörður.
Of the siblings who have passed away, one survived to age 98, another 94, and others still to 93, 92 and 90 years-old.
This means that nine of the 13 children from Litla-Fjarðarhorn reached the age of 90 and long life clearly runs in the family. Not only are the siblings long-lived, but one of their female cousins lived to 107, and her brother lived to 100.
