Iceland’s Northern Wave Festival Announces Winner

Spanish director Alberto Blanco received the grand prize for his short film Midday Cowboy at the first annual Northern Wave Film Festival held in Grundarfjördur, west Iceland, last weekend.

Two local companies sponsored the awards and Blanco was granted ISK 100,000 (USD 1,500, EUR 1,000). The second prize, ISK 70,000 (USD 1,000, EUR 700), went to Christian Pozo, who is also Spanish, for his short film Anonymous.

Polish directors Przemyslaw Adamski and Mciej Szupica received ISK 60,000 (USD 900, EUR 600) for the best music video, made for the song “Strange Is This Country” by Pink Freud.

The festival attracted a number of people, including about 30 foreign visitors. Three bands, which had music videos in the competition, held concerts during the festival, Appledog from Spain, BB&Blake and Sometime.

The festival ended with a northern lights show on Sunday.
