Red cardboard hearts of different shapes and sizes have been used to decorate various buildings in Akureyri, Iceland’s capital of the north, in relation to the project “Smile with your heart” organized by local publishing house Ásprent-Stíll and Visit Akureyri.
The purpose with the initiative is simply to spread positive thoughts and optimism in light of the otherwise gloomy atmosphere in the country followed by the economic crisis, Morgunbladid reports.
The project also includes poems and proverbs that have been written on various walls around town.
Since the local Merchants’ Weekend celebration in the first weekend of August, all the red traffic lights in Akureyri have been heart-shaped, which fits in nicely with the current initiative.
