Iceland’s New FM Puts EU Application on Hold

The new Minister for Foreign Affairs, Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson (Progressive Party), asked his staff and delegation working on Iceland’s application for European Union membership to halt all work in progress.

Gunnar Bragi told Morgunblaðið that he will go to Brussels in June to meet with representatives from the EU and until then, no talks or further work on the application will be carried out.

An upcoming meeting with EU representatives in Reykjavík has been cancelled, according to eyjan.is.
