Representatives of around 350 foreign travel agencies have arrived in Reykjavík to attend the largest travel fair that has ever been held in Iceland. The fair opened in Laugardalshöll arena yesterday and will continue throughout the weekend.

A fair of this kind, where foreign buyers of tourism services come to Iceland to learn about what is on offer, is being held for the 18th time and demand has never been as high, Arndís Ólafsdóttir, marketing director at Icelandair, told ruv.is.
The number of attendees is twice as high as last year. Of the 350 representatives of foreign travel agencies, almost 150 come from the US.
Ólafsdóttir said direct flights to the west coast of the US have opened up new possibilities. Powerful marketing campaigns and a low exchange rate of the Icelandic króna are also helping.
