Iceland’s Highland Roads to Open Later than Usual

Highland roads in Iceland’s northeast are scheduled to open considerably later this year than usual.

There is a lot of snow north of Vatnajökull glacier and the huts in Drekagil near Askja are covered in snow, ruv.is reports.

Last year, the roads were open in mid-June but a lot of snow still remains in the area despite the heat wave in other parts of the region. As reported yesterday, temperatures of more than 20°C (68°F) are forecast for the northeastern corner of the country.
