Iceland’s Foreign Minister Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson met with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich yesterday evening. Dvorkovich was on a stopover at Keflavík International Airport yesterday.

The ministers reviewed the status of EFTA free trade negotiations and customs alliance with Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus. Gunnar Bragi highlighted the need for continued progress in the negotiations in the near future, as stated in a press release from the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Other issues discussed included bilateral relations in the field of geothermal energy and telecommunications. Dvorkovich also spoke about Russia’s preparations for the country’s bid for hosting 2020 EXPO in the city of Yekaterinburg.
