Iceland’s Foreign Minister estimates threats

By Iceland Review

Foreign Minister Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir has begun estimating the potential threats against Iceland in her ministry, as she announced during a conference in the Nordic House in Reykjavík yesterday.

Gísladóttir said it is not possible to make a defense plan for Iceland without estimating the threats, Fréttabladid reports.

The minister pointed out that defense and security issues are not just related to potential conflict, but also to natural disasters, pollution, epidemics and terrorism.

Gísladóttir announced the foundation of a new institute to undertake research on defense and security issues and take an active role in exchanging information on an international basis.
