Iceland’s Foreign Minister Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir collapsed at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday. Medical examination revealed that she has a benign tumor in her head.
Gísladóttir told RÚV that she had felt dizzy and nauseous, as if she was seasick, before fainting. She was taken to the Mount Sinai Hospital where the tumor was discovered, 24 Stundir reports.
The minister needs to have surgery and is returning to Iceland on Friday. She was given medicine so she no longer had symptoms of “seasickness” and planned to continue her participation in the General Assembly.
According to information from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, physicians do not believe that Gísladóttir will need a long leave from work.
