Iceland’s First Lady to Ride through Brandenburg Gate

Dorrit Moussaieff, wife of President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, will participate in the opening ceremony of the Icelandic Horse World Championships 2013 in Berlin, August 4-11, on Sunday by riding through the Brandenburg Gate with a group of Icelandic stallions.

This is the first time that the championships are held in the center of a big city. It has garnered significant interest, in Iceland and among Icelandic horse lovers around the world. Approximately 2,000 Icelanders have bought tickets to the championships and a total of 30,000 attendees are expected, visir.is reports.

Icelandic horses from 15 countries will participate in the championships to which 163 participants are registered, among them eight former world champions. They will compete in seven different categories.
