Njal’s Saga is one of the most famous of the Icelandic sagas, first told in the Viking Age and passed orally to the next generation, shaped and changed over time and only written down much later by an unknown author. It is seen as a great commentary to life in Iceland and as a set of moral guidelines. As common mythology it belongs to the cultural treasures of Iceland and its fans appreciate the story as a masterpiece of narrative literature.

For those interested in learning more about the saga, Storyfest aims to provide a deep insight not only into the saga itself, but also its historical background and the Icelandic sagas in general. During the eight days of the “journey”, the saga will be read, discussed and interpreted and some of the story’s settings will be visited as well as other famous sights in the area.

The storyteller and guide will be Robert Bela Wilhelm, who has been telling the Icelandic sagas in North America for more than 30 years. No knowledge of the Icelandic sagas is required, but of course a serious interest is expected.

As the journey is only for a small group of seven, registration is required. The fest will take place in Skálholt but a pick-up in Reykjavík is provided.

More information about the schedule, prices and registration can be found on the Storyfest website.
