Iceland’s Eurovision “Silver Boys” Awarded

The Icelandic Association of Composers and Songwriters (FTT) presented Óskar Páll Sveinsson and Thorvaldur Bjarni Thorvaldsson with awards on Thursday for having written songs that have both placed second in the Eurovision Song Contest.

“These silver awards are well deserved,” chairman of FTT Jakob Frímann Magnússon said at the occasion, Fréttabladid reports.

“They may not measure up to 20 Orders of the Falcon or a 50 million silver fund [USD 407,000, EUR 286,000] but they are a whole-hearted recognition from our association of the outstanding achievement of these two silver boys of Icelandic music,” Frímannsson added.

After the Icelandic men’s handball team brought home the silver medal from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, they were presented with the Order of the Falcon from the president, the republic’s highest recognition.

Sveinsson’s song “Is It True?” placed second in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow while Thorvaldsson’s “All Out of Luck” earned second place in the 1999 song contest in Israel.
