Iceland’s Entry in the Eurovision Song Contest on Stage Tonight

Iceland will be the first act on stage in Belgrade, Serbia, tonight in the second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Icelands’s song “This is My Life” by Örlygur Smári, preformed by Regína Ósk and Fridrik Ómar, hopes to make it to the finals tonight. The Eurovision Song Contest was divided into two semi-finals and one final few years ago. Since the event first held qualifying rounds, Iceland has never made it to the finals.

According to fan websites and betting houses there is hope for Iceland this year. Fridrik Ómar is also reasonably optimistic, according to an interview in 24 Stundir.

“All the nations which are predicted to win are in the same final as we are; in fact they perform right after us. That could be dangerous,” Fridrik told 24 Stundir.

The finalists are chosen by viewers of the competing countries by phone. It is estimated that over 300 million people will watch the finals in Belgrade on Saturday.
