Last night, the ICE-SAR teams of Kjalarnes and Mosfellsbær were called out to save a horse in trouble by Álfsnes in Kjalarnes, Southwest Iceland. This was a very unusual request, according to a press release from ICE-SAR. The horse had fallen into a ditch and was stuck in mud. It was exhausted and in danger of drowning. Thus, the rescue teams’ experience of knots and ropes was thought to be valuable in its rescue.
Team members acted quickly with the help of some other people and a bulldozer. They successfully heaved the horse out of the ditch.
The horse was near exhaustion, but was seen running in the pasture in Kjalarnes shortly after.
