Its goal is first and foremost to eradicate black market labour as well as tax fraud. Every tip is investigated.

“The tips regard everything from individuals and up to large corporations. In those cases, many jobs are often involved,” head of the Directorate of Labour Gissur Pétursson told visir.is.

He says that the Directorate of Labour has already taken action in many cases. For example by taking unemployment benefits from people. Pétursson added that every case requires a lot of work.

“I believe that there are quite a lot of people within our community who work on the black market, and that undermines the foundations of the welfare system.”
