Hundreds Protest Gaza Conflict in Reykjavík

By Iceland Review

Up to 2,000 people gathered in Lækjartorg square in central Reykjavík yesterday to protest the Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, reports.

As reported by the BBC this morning, Israel has accepted an Egyptian truce proposal for the conflict with Gaza.

Sveinn Rúnar Hauksson, head of the Iceland-Palestine Association, which organized the protest, told yesterday that the group demanded that “the bloodbath be stopped immediately and that Palestinians receive international protection.”

Sveinn said yesterday that the Icelandic government should cease diplomatic relations with the Israeli government.

Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson has expressed deep concern over the conflict.
