Hundreds Protest against Israeli Attacks at US Embassy

A group of 300 to 400 people demonstrated outside the US Embassy in Reykjavík yesterday to protest against the support of US authorities for Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip.

The event was headlined, “Show solidarity – Stop the mass murders,” Morgunbladid reports.

Chairman of the Iceland-Palestine Association, Sveinn Rúnar Hauksson, gave a speech, following which he handed a declaration from the association to a member of embassy staff.

Between ten and 15 police officers were at the scene in addition to the US Embassy’s security guards, but the demonstration turned out to be peaceful and intervention was not necessary. People started leaving after about 45 minutes.
