Hundreds Lose Jobs in Mass Layoffs in Iceland

A total of 430 people have lost their jobs through 18 mass layoffs so far this year. In July alone 89 people were laid off en masse, as stated in a news item on the website of the Directorate of Labor.

Both companies that gave notice to their employees through mass layoffs in July operate in the construction sector. The reason is lack of projects, visir.is reports.

The people who lost their jobs last month will work until September or October, after that they will join the large group of people registered as unemployed; their number is currently 14,360.
