Hotels in Mývatn Booked Out Due to Game of Thrones

All accommodation in Mývatn, North Iceland, is fully booked, unusual for this time of year, due to filming of scenes for the third series of the popular U.S. television series Game of Thrones. Around 200 people are reportedly working on the production in Iceland.

Manager of Hotel Sel in the Lake Mývatn area Yngvi Ragnar Kristjánsson told ruv.is that November is usually a very quiet time but their hotel is booked out for most of the month providing a boost for the low season.

As reported earlier, shooting for the series also took place in Iceland in November 2011, mostly by Svínafellsjökull glacier in Southeast Iceland. However, as snowfall is more likely in the north, the crew decided on a different location this year.
