The hotel being built over ruins that are said to be the first farm in Reykjavik is ISK 13.1 million over budget, according to a letter drafted by the Mayor, Steinunn Valdis Oskarsdottir.
The ruins are thought to be the remnants of the farm of Iceland’s first settler, Ingolfur Arnarson.
When the hotel is completed, a glass floor will cover the ruins, serving as a viewing platform.
The current budget for the downtown hotel is now ISK 593 million.
