Homeless Request Overnight Stay in Prison

Two individuals voluntarily spent Monday night in police prison cells, DV reports. According to police logs, neither had a registered permanent address and both claimed to have exhausted all other options to no avail.

Demand for space at the homeless shelter on Lindargata has been unusually high as of late. “We’re full night after night and have at times had to turn people away. I’m not sure whether this is a temporary situation or if it’s reflective of an increased need for our services,” said Sveinn Allan Morthens, manager of the shelter, to Morgunblaðið last week.
