Without a home team to support at the World Cup, Icelanders are turning to the Netherlands and Germany, with 15.4 and 14 percent support respectively, according to a new survey conducted by MMR. Other popular teams at the tournament include Brazil and England.
The poll found that supporters of the Independence Party are the most likely to have a favorite team whereas supporters of the Pirate Party are the least likely.
The Dutch team is the most popular team among supporters of the Independence Party, Bright Future, the Social Democrats and the Left-Greens. The Germans, however, are the favorites of Progressive Party and Pirate Party supporters
Close to half of respondents said that they did not have a favorite team in Brazil.
The poll was conducted June 18-23.
Iceland made it to the qualifiers but was beaten by Croatia.
