HK Celebrates Triple Victory in Women’s Volleyball

Kópavogur volleyball team HK beat Thróttur from Neskaupstadur 3-0 on Friday, claiming their first Icelandic championship title since 1995. With its victory, HK became a triple champion, having earned two other championship titles this season.

“It was very convincing. The victory was never in jeopardy in my opinion,” HK captain Karen Björg Gunnarsdóttir told Morgunbladid. “We were expecting more resistance from them but in fact we never let them participate in the game. We were rather calm because the game was safe in our hands.”

Thróttur showed the most resistance in the first of the three rounds, which ended 25-21 for HK. The other two ended with HK winning 25-12 and 25-14, respectively. The two teams met for the second time on Friday. The other game ended 3-1 for HK.

“I had high expectations before the season started and had faith in us going all the way,” Gunnarsdóttir concluded.
