HK and KA Win Iceland Volleyball Cup

The women’s volleyball team from HK in Kópavogur beat KA from Akureyri 3-1 in the Iceland cup final yesterday, while the men’s team from KA beat Stjarnan from Gardabaer 3-2. Both games were played in the Laugardalshöll arena in Reykjavík.

“We have a considerably younger team and a great fighting spirit,” captain of the KA men’s team Hilmar Sigurjónsson told Morgunbladid.

“We were off to a slow start, though […]. Then in the forth round things began moving along in the right direction. When we are in the right gear we are the best team in Iceland,” Sigurjónsson added.

HK captain Kristín Salín Thórhallsdóttir was satisfied with winning the cup but wouldn’t predict a victory in the upcoming Icelandic championship. HK has already won the league this year in addition to the Iceland cup yesterday.

“We became treble champions last year and are double champions now. The final in the Icelandic championship begins on Wednesday and hopefully we’ll become treble champions again,” Thórhallsdóttir said. “In the final anything can happen but we can definitely win the third title.”
