Historical Houses in Reykjavík Numbered at Last

The Reykjavík City Council has for the first time placed numbers on historical houses and landmark buildings in Reykjavík. For example, the Prime Minister Office, built as a prison 1770, was simply known as Stjórnarráðið but didn’t have any street or street number.

Now the Prime Minister’s Office is located on Lækjargata 1, while the nearby Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík (Reykjavík High School) is placed on Lækjargata 5, mbl.is reports.

The church Hallgrímskirkja on the hill overlooking Skólavörðustígur is now located on Hallgrímstorg 1 and Perlan, hot water tanks with a rotating glass dome on top, inside of which there is a restaurant, will henceforth have the address Varmahlíð 1.
