Historic Icelandic Victory at Olympics

ragnaingolfsdottir_londonol2012Badminton player Ragna Ingólfsdóttir made Icelandic sporting history yesterday. She beat Akvile Stapusaityte from Lithuania 2:0 in her first game in the qualifying group, which was the first victory of an Icelandic female badminton player at the Olympics.

“I have trained the past three to four years with that in mind, that I will peak here in London. I’m 29 and I don’t think I’ve ever been in better shape,” Ragna told Morgunblaðið.

Tonight Ragna will play the deciding game of the qualifying group against Yao Jie from Holland, the fourth best female badminton player in Europe. Ragna ranks 30th. The winner of the game will move on to the quarter finals.
