An 18-year-old tourist from Switzerland fell when taking a shortcut on a wet path leading up to Stjórnarfoss waterfall near Kirkjubæjarklaustur in South Iceland yesterday. The woman fell several meters and is believed to have suffered serious injuries.

Local search and rescue squad Kyndill was called to the scene, along with an ambulance and a Coast Guard helicopter. The woman was cared for in the ambulance while waiting for the helicopter, which landed under difficult circumstances in the narrow canyon, as stated in a press release from ICE-SAR search and rescue association.

According to the physician on duty at the Landspítali National University Hospital’s intensive care unit, the woman’s condition is stable. No other information about her condition has been released, visir.is reports.
