High Prices at Tourist Spots in Iceland Criticized

Very high prices at tourist destinations around Iceland are having a negative impact on the industry, experts warn.

“Tourists often don’t understand how Icelanders can live in this country. They speak about the price of food and at restaurants compared to the average salary here,” said board member of the Iceland Tourist Guide Association, Kári Jónasson. Kári has recently been studying prices at tourist spots in Iceland.

Head of the Consumers’ Association of Iceland, Jóhannes Gunnarsson, said that high prices have a negative impact on both foreign tourists and on Icelanders who wish to travel domestically. He told visir.is that if people are pricing goods and services well above what is normal then the association will have to look into what can be done.

He encourages consumers to be critical and to avoid places which set excessive prices.
