By Iceland Review

Romanian-born German Nobel Prize in Literature Laureate Herta Müller and Indian bestseller Vikas Swarup, who reached world fame with his novel Q&A, will be among the guests at the tenth annual Reykjavík International Literary Festival, September 7-11, as announced last week.

During the festival, native and foreign authors will read from their books—even give attendees previews of works in progress—and discuss literature. The theme of this year’s festival is “Nordic literary heritage, living contemporary literature,” ruv.is reports.

One of the festival’s employees, Stella Soffía Jóhannesdóttir explained that in addition to recent books, the Icelandic sagas will be highlighted. A conference will be held in connection with the festival on the translation of the sagas; they are about to appear in new German, English and Scandinavian translations.

Of Müller’s participation, Jóhannesdóttir commented, “she is very sought-after at literary festivals around the world and it is always great to have a Nobel Prize winner—we’re collecting them.” Previous visitors include Günter Grass and Jose Saramago.
