Hermann Hreidarsson to Portsmouth

Icelandic footballer Hermann Hreidarsson signed a two-year contract with the English football (soccer) club Portsmouth, in the English Premier League, yesterday.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me because good things are happening at Portsmouth,” Hreidarsson told Fréttabladid, adding that he expected Portsmouth to be successful in the European league next winter.

Hreidarsson said the manager of Portsmouth, Harry Redknapp, had been eager to recruit him.

After the footballer’s contract with Portsmouth expires, he will be 35, which is considered old in professional football.

Hreidarsson said he had not decided what he would do after that, but may return to Iceland to play with a local team.
