Henri Matisse in Iceland

The work of French expressionist Henri Matisse will be on display in Iceland for the first time this month when an art exhibition dedicated to French expressionists will open in Iceland in mid December.

The paintings arrived at the National Gallery of Iceland from Bordeaux, France, yesterday. RÚV reports.

The exhibition “Regard Fauve” features over 50 art works by 13 French expressionists from the beginning of the 20th century. It opens on 15 December and admission is free.

The exhibition also includes works by Icelandic painter Jón Sigurdsson, who was taught by Matisse in Paris and influenced by the ideas of the French expressionist.
