Helicopter Used to Round Up Horses in Iceland

By Iceland Review

A Coast Guard helicopter was used to chase horses down from Mt. Thríhyrningur in south Iceland yesterday. The horses got scared during a round-up on Sunday and instead of running towards their farm they ran towards the mountain top.

The horses were unable to find their way back and after a few unsuccessful attempts from local farmers to rescue their horses from the deadlock, they decided to call for assistance from police, Fréttabladid reports.

But instead of assisting the farmers themselves, and to the farmers’ great surprise, police called out a Coast Guard chopper which flew up to the summit of Mt. Thíhyrningur and then chased the horses down the mountain slope.

“They saved us; it was amazing,” said Vidar Pálsson, a farmer in Fljótshlíd.
