Heavy Narcotic Surveillance at Westman Islands

The Westman Islands Police Department has increased drug surveillance of their guests because of the Thjódhátíd, the upcoming Merchant’s Weekend’s festival, visir.is reports.

This is done in light of the past years’ experience which has seen drug dealers trying to get to the Islands before the stream of guests increases and drug surveillance reaches its peak.

So far, nothing suspicious has been found. According to bookings of flights and the ferry Herjólfur, the Thjódhátíd festival will see a record attendance. They attribute that to the fact that much fewer young people are traveling abroad this year.
