Heavy Metal Festival Begins in East Iceland

The heavy metal festival Eistnaflug in Neskaupstadur, east Iceland, formally began at 3:30 pm yesterday. The first campers encountered rainy and stormy weather conditions and required assistance from locals, but now the weather is improving.

“The weather was rather nasty at the beginning of the week, so bad that we had to find inside accommodation for those who were in the worst tents,” Stefán Magnússon, the festival’s representative, told Morgunbladid.

“The flimsiest tents were destroyed, flattened by the wind. One could have practiced swim strokes in there,” Magnússon added. He said it had not taken long to find shelter for the unlucky campers.

“Now there is a lively party scene here. The weather is calm and the town is full of visitors,” the festival’s organizer said. Eistnaflug will continue until Sunday.
