Heatwave in Northeast Iceland

If you don’t like the wind and rain in the capital region, you should head north to Raufarhöfn, the northernmost village on the Icelandic mainland.

Raufarhöfn is usually the an unlikely place to be the warmest in Iceland, but according to the forecast for next seven days, the northeastern corner of the country will be blessed with warmth and sun, exceeding 20°C (68°F).

There are plenty of interesting places one can visit in the area while enjoying the good weather, including the horseshoe-shaped depression Ásbyrgi and Europe’s most powerful waterfall Dettifoss.

The region is also worth a visit for the bird paradise at Langanes peninsula, the midnight sun at Hraunhafnartangi on Melrakkaslétta, the only place on mainland Iceland that reaches north of the Arctic Circle. It’s only five kilometers (three miles) north of Raufarhöfn.

The forecast for Southwest Iceland and Reykjavík is not that good for the next few days: rain showers and windy conditions.
