Morgunblaðið is reporting that the annual summer sacrifice day, sumarblót, was observed last Friday by the ásatrúarmenn, members of the heathen religion in Iceland, albeit without a real sacrifice. Heathens in Iceland follow the traditions and beliefs of the Old Norse religion, including belief in Thór, Ódin, and other Gods.
The ceremony was held at Arnarnes near Ísafjördur in the Westfjords. Both members of the ásatrúarmenn and other religions were present and the Westfjord Chieftain of the Heathens presided. To cap off the day, a big barbeque was held.
