The Icelandic Film Heartstone (Hjartasteinn) will receive the 2017 European University Film Award (EUFA), RÚV reports. The film has received 45 international awards to date, alongside nine Icelandic Edda awards in February of this year.
In total 66 films were on the short list for the award and five, including Heartstone, received nominations. The nominated films were viewed and discussed in 20 universities in 20 countries, each of which selected one favourite. A representative from each university attended a three-day deliberation meeting to decide the overall winner.
Heartstone is director Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson’s debut feature. He will receive the award in Berlin today.
Heartstone will be screened by RÚV in Iceland on Christmas day, December 25th, at 9:15 pm.
